The sea is in motion. Human beeings are islands. My photographic-artistic work deals with the history and heritage of the merchant navy of the GDR. The "Volkseigene Betrieb Deutsche Seereederei Rostock", founded out of nothing in 1952, transported goods around the entire globe as an internationally operating charter company. It was one of the large European universal shipping companies until its dissolution after the merger of the FRG and the GDR.
